Jesus Drank Wine – Wine Glass

Is it true? Yup! Jesus did promote wine, I’m catholic, I know. Sometimes we can remind ourselves on a daily basis about Jesus. So I decided to make some fun glasses. I won’t go into the exact etching instructions but you’ll catch on when I do a step-by-step tutorial in a few weeks if enough people request it.

Material Needed:

  • Large Wine Glass
  • Etching cream
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Cotton pads
  • Small paintbrush (that you’re ok throwing away)
  • Rubber or latex gloves for hand protection
  • Goggles for eye protection
  • Cameo Silhouette vinyl cutter and vinyl

Start looking at garage sales, dollar stores or your top cabinet for those odd “unpaired” wine glasses.  Clean with some rubbing alcohol. The photo shows regular alcohol, cotton pads and glass. (Note: this photo is from another project)

Next we designed our text on the Silhouette Cameo and printed out the design.

Next we used some “contac” shelfliner in clear adhesive to transfer the vinyl design and then placed onto the wine glass.

Now we have a stencil. Let’s really lay the cream on very thick and just pat (don’t brush) onto the blank letter spaces. I use this brand of etching cream.

IMG_4767Gentle, you don’t want the cream seeping underneath. Once done, let sit for a few minutes (laying it flat). Carefully wash off the cream in a soft stream of warm water in a sink and make sure your gloves are on for this step. This is acid and we don’t want to get this on our skin and especially our eyes–thus the goggles or protective eyewear. Peel the vinyl off and rinse again. Pat dry with a paper towel and enjoy your new glass!
